Elsie Bauer

Truly one of the pioneers of women's athletics at VU, Elsie Bauer served as volleyball coach for 10 years-all winning seasons.

Also the golf coach in the early 1960s, she coached the 1964 team that included national champion Patti (Shook) Boice. Bauer was involved in the Women's Athletic Association (WAA), the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) and the Indiana AIAW.

She also was an assistant professor of physical education during this era. Although women's athletic records were not consistently maintained prior to VU's NCAA affiliation, Bauer's contributions to the development of women's sports helped elevate the University to the level and quality that currently exists.
