"An outstanding collegiate player, Lloyd McClendon established himself in the major leagues for several organizations from 1980-1995.

When at VU he compiled a career batting average of .330, while producing 73 RBI and 18 home runs. A two-time All-ICC selection (1979 and 1980), McClendon was drafted by the New York Mets in 1980. He made the majors for the first time in 1987 with the Cincinnati Reds and was traded to the Chicago Cubs in December 1988.

McClendon helped the Cubs to the 1989 National League East Division title by hitting .286 with 12 home runs. He was then traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates and provided the highlight of his career by batting .727 during the 1992 N.L. Championship Series. His record of eight hits in eight straight bats is still an NLCS record. He finished his career in 1995 in the Cleveland Indians organization.
