"Richard Beumer joined the Valparaiso University baseball squad in the 1956 season after a storybook high school career.

As a pitcher, Beumer won five of the six games played in the 1954 Missouri state baseball tournament and hurled a no-hitter in 1955 for the St. Louis Lutheran High School Crusaders. During his four-year career at VU, he was a dominating pitcher, compiling a 19-7 record with ERAs of 2.10, 1.63, 1.70 and 1.65. As a senior, Beumer served as a co-captain, while earning team MVP and all-conference honors.

In recent years, he has served as CEO of Sverdrup Corp. and vice chairman of Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., following a merger.
