"Known as one of the most devastating tacklers to wear the brown and gold, Jerry Goeglein played both center and linebacker for the Crusaders.

He was voted by his teammates as Most Valuable Lineman in his junior year and Most Valuable Player in his senior year. Goeglein received All-America recognition as a senior in 1961, and earned Indiana Collegiate Conference first team honors the same year.

Following his graduation from VU in 1962, Goeglein was involved in high school teaching and coaching for several years before settling into the business world. From 1971 to 1999, he was co-owner of Goeglein's Inc. of Fort Wayne, Ind., a food catering business, with his brother, another football-playing alumnus of VU.
