Basketball, Softball, & Volleyball (1948-1952)
"Lorrie Woycik played basketball, softball and volleyball during her undergraduate career. Her participation occurred during the days of women's athletics associations when competition was in the form of play days where several different sports teams from one school would visit and compete against the teams from another.
Although Woycik coached basketball at Valparaiso High School for 10 years, her greatest contributions were made through the Special Olympics. She began the Special Olympics program in Porter County in 1970, became the Porter County Special Olympics Coordinator for nine sports and over 250 athletes in 1972, and became the first area director, serving a five county area, in 1975. Woycik has been an International Special Olympic World Games coach or official for aquatics, skiing or basketball on numerous occasions.
