Sunday, October 1, 2006
Jessie White's (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove H.S.) with 1:24 remaining lifted Valparaiso to its school record eighth straight victory on Sunday afternoon as the Crusaders defeated Oakland 2-1 in Rochester, Mich.

White received a feed from Reva Van Aartsen (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East H.S.) at the top of the box, turned and fired into the upper 90 as Valpo improves to a school-best 7-0 on the road this season as well.

The Brown and Gold took a 1-0 lead into halftime as Dana McGlone (Littleton, Colo./Heritage H.S.) beat goalkeeper Kim Herbst on a volley from 25 yards out after receiving a feed from Ani Michl (Deerfield, Ill./Stevenson H.S.) at the 38:41 mark.

Oakland (3-9, 0-1 Mid-Con) tied the match at 61:37 as Kristi Tomczyk scored on an assist from Marianne Samdal.

Valpo outshot Oakland 14-10 in the match forcing Herbst to make five saves. Erin Murray (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley H.S.) made four stops to earn the win in goal for the Crusaders, as the junior lowered her goals against average on the year to 0.75. The Brown and Gold also had three corners while not surrendering one in the match.

With the win, Valparaiso (10-2, 3-0) has already assured itself of its fourth winning season in school history, and its ten victories are tied for second most all-time.

Valpo will conclude its three-match road trip on Friday evening as the Crusaders head to Fort Wayne, Ind. to battle IPFW. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CDT.
