Valparaiso turned in several of the best performances in school history on Friday as the Crusaders continued competition on day two of the Mid-Continent Conference Swimming and Diving Championships held in Indianapolis, Ind.

Dave Peterson (Schererville, Ind./Highland H.S.) turned in the second fastest time in Valpo history in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.92 on his way to a fifth place finish in the event. His effort was the highest finish of any Crusader on day two of the three day event.

Adam Jajtner (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington H.S.) earned an eighth place finish for the Brown and Gold in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:17.12, the third fastest time in Valpo history.

Valparaiso opened day two of competition with a seventh place finish in the 200 medley relay. Kyle Verage (Hubertus, Wis./Marquette H.S.), Andrew Geibel (Bartlesville, Okla./Bartlesville H.S.), Ansel Hillmer (Tampa, Fla./Hillsborough H.S.), and Matt Schuchhardt (Neenah, Wis./Neenah H.S.) touched the wall in 1:39.80, just .19 seconds behind Western Illinois.

Hillmer finished 14th in the 100 butterfly with a season's best time of 53.63 seconds. Verage finished 11th in the 100 backstroke with his time of 54.87 seconds, sixth fastest in school history.

In the 200 freestyle, Blake Edwards (Orange, Calif./Lutheran H.S. of Orange County) was the top Crusader finisher with a time of 1:49.99, but he failed to advance to the finals.

The Crusaders then ended the day with a fifth place finish in the 800 free relay. Peterson, Edwards, Verage, and Jajtner touched the wall in 7:11.66, another season best mark.

As a team Valparaiso is in seventh place heading into the final day of competition with 129 points. Oakland continues to lead with 691 points followed by Centenary with 404.5 points.

The meet wraps up on Saturday with preliminary heats beginning at 9 a.m. CST and finals set for 5:30 p.m. CST.
