Valpo Defeated by UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee

Valparaiso dropped a pair of meets on Saturday as the Crusaders fell to UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee.

In the morning meet against the Phoenix, UW-Green Bay won nine of 12 events on the way to posting a 150-69 win over the Crusaders.

Dave Peterson (Schererville, Ind./Highland H.S.) was victorious for the Brown and Gold in the 200 individual medley, posting a winning time of 1:58.43, nearly six seconds better than his nearest competitor.

The senior also won the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in 59.34 seconds.

Kyle Verage (Hubertus, Wis./Marquette H.S.) earned Valpo's other victory in the meet. The sophomore was triumphant in the 100 backstroke. His time of 57.70 seconds out-touched his nearest opponent from UW-Green Bay by .03 seconds.

In meet two of the day's doubleheader, the Crusaders were defeated by UW-Milwaukee by an identical 150-69 score. Peterson was a triple event winner for the Brown and Gold in the afternoon.

Peterson again won the 200 IM, this time with a time of 2:00.17, winning by more than a second. He also won the 100 freestyle by .27 seconds, touching the wall in 49.18 seconds.

The senior concluded his brilliant day with a triumph in the 100 breast for the second time, finishing with a time of 59.55 seconds. This victory was by more than three seconds.

Valpo (1-6) will return to the pool next Saturday afternoon as the Crusaders head to Macomb, Ill. for a 2 p.m. meet against Western Illinois.
