Valparaiso accepted a bid late Sunday evening to the inaugural College Basketball Invitational, and will open the tournament at Pac-10 foe Washington Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. CDT. The game will be televised on Fox College Sports.
The Crusaders earned the bid to the CBI after finishing the regular season with a 21-13 record, including wins in six of their last seven contests, while Washington is currently 16-16 overall and finished the Pac-10 campaign at 7-11. Valpo features four players averaging in double figures on the season, led by 12.9 points per game from senior forward Shawn Huff (Helsinki, Finland/Makelanrinne), who currently ranks second in the nation with a 48.4% 3-point percentage. The Huskies are paced by junior forward Jon Brockman, who averages 17.6 points and 11.5 rebounds per game.
The winner of the Valpo/Washington game will face either Nevada or Houston in the quarterfinals of the CBI on Monday, March 24. All of the Crusaders’ games in the CBI, as always, can be heard live on the Valpo Sports Radio Network (WVUR, 95.1 FM, Valparaiso; WEFM, 95.9 FM, Michigan City; WAKE, 1500 AM, Valparaiso; WWLO, 89.1 FM, Lowell).
