Link to ESPN.com column on Brittany and Bobby Malicoat

Valparaiso senior libero Brittany Malicoat (Elkhart, Ind./Memorial) is featured today in a column by ESPN.com volleyball columnist Dave Reed.  The story, which is currently the lead item on ESPN.com’s ESPNU page, focuses on Malicoat and her husband, Bobby, who is currently stationed in Iraq with the U.S. Marine Corps.

On the court, Brittany is on the verge of breaking Valparaiso’s career digs record, as she enters this weekend’s action just 96 digs shy of Sara Silcox’s record.  The 2007 Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year, she has earned All-Tournament honors at both the Shamrock Invitational and adidas Classic to open the 2008 campaign.

Off the court, Brittany and Bobby were married in December of 2006, after Brittany’s sophomore season with the Crusaders.  Bobby, a Sergeant in the USMC, was deployed on a ship in the Mediterranean in 2007, and was deployed over to Iraq just over a month ago.  Brittany has also been able to succeed in the classroom through it all, as she entered her senior year carrying a 3.584 cumulative GPA as an art history and public relations double major.
