Valpo Women Conclude Fall Season

Valparaiso’s women’s tennis team wrapped up its play for the fall on Sunday afternoon on day two of the IPFW Mastodon Invitational held in Fort Wayne, Ind.

In flight two of doubles, Jenny Schwartz (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora H.S.) and Molly Keifer (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) teamed to defeat Stephanie Millis and Allie Cox of Evansville 8-4 in the consolation draw.  The duo dropped their fifth place match against Youngstown State 8-2.  Also in that flight, Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South H.S.) and Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) were defeated in their two matches on the day.

Flight one saw Julie Wingstrom (Dallas Lake, Ind./Westview H.S.) and Kim Sajevic (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury H.S.) fall in both consolation matches on the afternoon while Jackie O’Reilly (DePere, Wis./DePere H.S.) and Camill Burden (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) dropped their consolation match.

In singles play, Burden recorded her first collegiate victory, a 6-3, 6-1 decision against Rafaela Hadba of IPFW in flight 10 for Valpo’s lone win on the final day.

Sajevic dropped a 7-5, 6-0 decision to Anna Volkova of Youngstown State in flight two while Keifer fell 6-2, 6-4 to Ingrid Ballus of IPFW in the third flight.  Bilyeu dropped a 6-3, 6-1 match to Svetlana Flankova of Detroit in flight four and York lost 6-2, 6-0 against Tanisha Welch of Youngstown State in flight five.

Christine Antrobus (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.) fell 6-0, 6-0 to Erin Weldon of Detroit in flight seven while Wingstrom suffered a 6-3, 6-3 setback to Youngstown State’s Gretchen Cloern in flight eight.  O’Reilly dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Kelly Culbertson of Youngstown State in flight nine.
