Crusaders Add Forward to NLI Signees
Thursday, November 13, 2008

Crusader men’s basketball head coach Homer Drew announced today that forward Chris Halvorsen has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join fellow signees Matt Kenney and Tommy Kurth as freshmen in the Valpo program for the 2009-2010 season.

Halvorsen, a 6’8”, 205 lb. forward out of Henry Sibley [Minn.] H.S., helped lead the Warriors to an appearance in the state championship game last season and was selected to the All-Tournament Team.  A two-time All-Conference performer, including a unanimous selection last year, Halvorsen is also a two-time All-Metro Defensive Team honoree.  He is a team captain this year for a Henry Sibley squad that is ranked preseason #2 in the state of Minnesota and #3 in the Midlands Region.  Also a standout in the classroom, Halvorsen carries a 3.6 grade point average and is a member of National Honor Society.

“We are delighted to add Chris as our third signee in the early signing period,” said Drew.  “Like both Matt and Tommy, Chris comes from a very athletic family, as his dad played collegiate basketball and his older brother is currently playing collegiately.  Chris is a very athletic player with a 40” vertical leap.  He plays above the rim, gets up and down the floor very well and is very mobile for his size.  Like the other two, he is also a strong student.”
