Cleveland State Defeats Valpo Men in Final Home Outing of the Season

Valparaiso wrapped up the home portion of the 2008-2009 swimming and diving season on Friday afternoon, dropping a 111-89 decision to Cleveland State at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.

David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) notched the Crusaders’ lone event victory on the afternoon, edging out the Vikings by just 0.02 seconds in the 100 freestyle to win in a time of 48.02 seconds.  Sivak also had the second fastest time of the day in the 400 individual medley, turning in a time of 4:16.43, the fourth quickest mark in school history.

Blake Edwards (Orange, Calif./Lutheran H.S. of Orange County) turned in his season’s best performance in the 200 freestyle on the way to a second place finish with a time of 1:49.72.

Victor Sikorski (Valparaiso, Ind./Wheeler H.S.) added a runner-up mark in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.72 seconds, just 0.03 seconds off of the pace.  Adam Jajtner (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington H.S.) also placed second in the 500 free, touching the wall in 4:56.30.

Kurtis Malone (Pekin, Ill./Pekin H.S.) added a second place score of 207.82 for Valpo in the one-meter diving competition.

Valparaiso (0-10) will wrap up the regular season on Sunday afternoon with a dual meet against IUPUI in Indianapolis, Ind.  The first race begins at 12 p.m. CST.
