Valparaiso played the fourth and final match of its 2009 spring trip to Florida on Friday afternoon, and fell on the road 7-0 to Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The Wildcats opened sweeping all three doubles contests. Eva Hankova and Monika Musilova defeated Jenny Schwartz (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora H.S.) and Molly Keifer (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) 8-3 at the top of the lineup. Stacy Lopez and Katarina Szaboova were 8-0 winners over Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.) and Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) at the second spot while Valecia Kendrick and Jeneice Ward downed Jackie O’Reilly (DePere, Wis./DePere H.S.) and Camill Burden (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) by the same margin at third doubles.
Bethune-Cookman also swept all six singles matches in straight sets. Szaboova was a 6-3, 6-2 victor over Schwartz at the top of the order while Musilova defeated Keifer 6-1, 6-2 at the second spot. Hankova downed Bilyeu 6-1, 6-0 at third singles while Lopez topped York 6-1, 6-1 at number four. Kendrick was a 6-2, 6-0 winner against Lindsey Gustafson (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) at the fifth slot in the lineup while Ward defeated Christine Antrobus (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.) 6-3, 6-1 to round out the lineup.
Valparaiso (1-9) will return to the courts on March 22 as the Crusaders head to Indianapolis, Ind. First serve against Butler is set for 1 p.m. CDT.
