Former Valparaiso men’s soccer standout Oscar Lomeli has signed a contract to play professional soccer with Club Universidad de Guadalajara of Guadalajara, Mexico.
The Jalisco, Mexico native signed a contract on Monday to play with the Primera “A” Division club through the 2009-2010 season. Known as the Black Lions, Universidad de Guadalajara plays their home games in the 60,000 seat Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara. Lomeli is the 22nd player that Crusader head coach Mike Avery has coached to advance to play professional soccer.Lomeli joins the professional ranks coming off of two successful seasons at Valparaiso University. Last year as a senior, Lomeli led the Crusaders with five goals and added an assist for a team-high 11 points en route to Second Team All-Horizon League honors. In his first year at Valpo in 2007, Lomeli earned both Second Team All-League and All-Newcomer Team accolades after registering two goals and an assist. In two seasons with the Crusaders, Lomeli played in 37 matches, starting 30.
