Valpo Men Dive Back in the Pool Saturday

Less than 18 hours after opening the season, the Valparaiso University men’s swim team was back in the water Saturday morning, finishing in fifth place at the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Crusaders finished the meet with 102 points while the host Boilermakers won the event with 928 points.

David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) led the way for the Crusaders with a pair of top-10 finishes.  The junior finished seventh in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:54.40, and added a ninth place mark in the 200 individual medley, touching the wall in 2:00.81.

Austin Hunter (La Crescent, Minn./La Crescent H.S.) had an 11th place effort for the Crusaders in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.11 seconds while also finishing 14th in the 50 freestyle, posting a time of 22.85 seconds.

Valparaiso will return to action in two weeks for the home opener as the Crusaders host Wright State in dual meet action at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool beginning at 10 a.m.
