Junior Roby Del Giudice (Toronto, Ont./Robert F. Hall [Wallace State C.C.]) was named the Horizon League Men’s Soccer Player of the Week on Monday for his performance in Valparaiso’s victory over league-leading Green Bay on Saturday.

Del Giudice earned the start against the Phoenix over the weekend and put the Crusaders in front early in the second half, working a beautiful give-and-go with Steve Shively and finding the back of the net from 15 yards out to give Valpo a 2-1 lead.  After Green Bay tied the game late in the second half, Del Giudice was instrumental in the Crusaders’ golden goal in the first overtime period, making a run in the center of the field on a counter opportunity, receiving a pass and sending the ball ahead to Brendan Roth, who would notch the match-winner.

Del Giudice has appeared in all 13 games this season in his first year as a Crusader and earned his fifth start of the season on Saturday.  The three points he tallied against the Phoenix gives him five points on the season, to go with the match-winning goal he scored earlier this season against Detroit.

With the weekly honor, Del Giudice is eligible for the Horizon League Network’s ‘The People’s Choice’ honor.  Fans can vote for Del Giudice by visiting www.horizonleaguenetwork.tv and voting in ‘The People’s Choice’ poll on the right-hand side of the page thru Tuesday afternoon.
