Valparaiso University’s Lauren Kenney (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville H.S.) has been named to the Horizon League’s Preseason Second Team the conference announced this afternoon.
The 5’11” senior forward averaged 10.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game during her first season with the Crusaders after transferring from Lincoln Trail College. Kenney was named to the All-Newcomer Team in the conference for her efforts.
Kenney ranked eighth in the league in rebounding and 13th in scoring while finishing the year fifth in field goal percentage. Her 54.4% shooting from the floor also ranked her sixth on Valpo’s single season charts.
She scored a career-high 26 points against Milwaukee on February 28 of last season and grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds against eighth-ranked Notre Dame on December 13. Kenney had three double-doubles on the year.
Valparaiso opens up exhibition action on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. hosting Indianapolis with the game carried live on the Horizon League Network. The regular season begins November 14 as the Crusaders host Indiana Tech at 7:05 p.m.
