Four former student-athletes will be inducted into the Valparaiso University Athletics Hall of Fame on February 6 as members of the Class of 2010. This year’s class will be the 13th since the Hall of Fame began in 1998.
David Macchi (2003) ranks as one of Valpo’s most prolific passing quarterbacks ever. Valpo’s career passing leader with 7,089 yards in just two seasons, Macchi led the Crusaders to the 2003 Pioneer Football League championship. An Honorable Mention All-PFL pick that same season, he threw 59 career touchdown passes for the Brown and Gold before playing professionally in the National Football League Italy where he led the Bergamo Lions to the 2004 Eurobowl.
Lynda (Kukla) Pinnow (1992) is one of the top outside shooters ever to play basketball at Valpo. Tenth all-time in school history with 1,081 career points, she led the nation in three-point shooting in 1991-1992, making 101 triples, still a Crusader single season record. A Second Team All-North Star Conference selection as a senior, she participated in the women’s first three-point shootout at the 1992 Men’s Final Four in Minneapolis. Pinnow also ranks ninth all-time at Valpo in steals and is 17th in assists.
Amber Schober (2002) ranks as one of the top all-around players ever on the hardwood for the Crusaders. Ranking fifth all-time at Valpo in scoring with 1,273 career points, she also ranks fourth in school history with 703 career rebounds. A Second Team All Mid-Continent Conference selection as a senior, she also was named to the league’s All-Freshman Team in 1998-1999. Schober also ranks among the top-10 all-time in field goals and free throws made. An all-around student-athlete, Schober was a member of Christ College at Valpo and a three-time Academic All-District V First Team selection.
Robert Thompson (1975) competed at both the 1974 and 1975 NCAA Division II national championships. One of the most talented wrestlers ever at Valpo, he posted a 76-8-5 record over four seasons with the Brown and Gold. A two-time Indiana Collegiate Conference champion in the 142-pound weight class, Thompson was a three-time team Most Valuable Wrestler. A multi-sport athlete, Thompson also played on the men’s soccer club team, the forerunner to the current varsity program.
