Valpo Women Fall 5-2 to Chicago State

Playing for the first time this season outdoors at the Valpo Tennis Complex, Valparaiso suffered a 5-2 setback to Chicago State on Tuesday afternoon.

In doubles action, Chicago State (4-4) won at both the number one and two spots to take the day’s first point.  The Cougars’ Dian Mayasari and Golda Rubina defeated Abby Wright (Sarasota, Fla./Pendleton H.S.) and Katie Bilyeau (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.) 8-0 at the number one spot.  At number two, Lia Tejoprayitno and Lina Tejoprayitno teamed for an 8-1 victory over Valpo’s Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) and Jackie O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./DePere H.S.).  The Crusaders won at number three doubles by default.

Jackie O’Reilly earned a victory for the Crusaders at number five singles, posting a 6-2, 7-5 triumph over Peggy Moore.  Valpo also earned a point at sixth singles, winning by default.

“Jackie was very gritty playing her match today,” head coach Traci Young said.  “She played very well though to earn the victory.

The Cougars won at each of the top four spots though to secure the win.  Mayasari defeated Wright 6-1, 6-1 at the top of the lineup while Lia Tejoprayitno downed Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.) 6-0, 6-0 at number two.   Lina Tejoprayitno defeated Bilyeau by the same score at third singles while Rubina topped York 6-1, 6-0 at the fourth spot.

Valparaiso (0-6) will return to Horizon League action on Friday afternoon as the Crusaders face the Titans of the University of Detroit Mercy.  First serve is set for 4 p.m. CDT in Detroit, Mich.
