Women's Tennis Falls to IPFW

Valparaiso’s women’s tennis team was forced indoors due to the heavy rains in Northwest Indiana on Wednesday and dropped a 7-0 match against IPFW at the Warsaw YMCA in Warsaw, Ind.

The Mastodons opened the contest winning all three doubles matches for the day’s first point.  Ingrid Ballus and Amy Recht captured number one doubles with an 8-2 victory over Abby Wright (Sarasota, Fla./Pendleton  H.S.) and Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.).  At the second spot, Katie Brien and Alex Forsyth won by the same score against Camill Burden (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) and Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.).  Yuka Kobayashi and Raquel Vescovi were 8-3 victors at the third spot against Jackie O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./DePere H.S.) and Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.).

In singles action, IPFW (18-5) won all six matches in straight sets.  Recht defeated Wright 6-1, 6-0 at the top of the order while Ballus was a 6-2, 6-2 victor against Brittany O’Reilly at the second spot.  At three, Vescovi downed Bilyeu 6-0, 6-0 while Brien topped York 6-1, 6-3 at number four.  Forsyth defeated Jackie O’Reilly 6-1, 6-2 at fifth singles while Kobayashi rounded out the lineup with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Christine Antrobus (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.).

Valparaiso (0-12) will return to Horizon League action on Saturday afternoon with an 11 a.m. match against UIC in Chicago, Ill.
