Valpo Men Open Play at Horizon League Championship

Valparaiso began play on Monday at the 2010 Horizon League Men’s Golf Championship, shooting rounds of 321 and 318 for a total of 639 and the Crusaders sit in eighth place heading into the final round at Kearney Hills Golf Links in Lexington, Ky.

Detroit leads the way at 587 through two rounds, one shot ahead of Green Bay for the team title. 

Josh Kalita (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) leads the way for the Brown and Gold, shooting rounds of 80 and 77.  His 157 through 36 holes is tied for 24th overall.  Andy Webb (Bedford, Ind./North Lawrence H.S.) sits one shot behind Kalita after carding a pair of 79s on Monday.

Austin Gaugert (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger H.S.) posted the low score for Valpo in round one with a 78 and followed it up with an 81 to finish at 159 on the 7,032-yard, par-72 layout.  Brad Winters (Elgin, Ill./Saint Edward H.S.) and Adam Gray (Portland, Ind./Jay County H.S.) shot 81 and 82 respectively in round two after both posting 84s over the opening 18 holes.

Thomas Greene of Loyola (Chicago) leads the individual standings at two-under par 142 (69-73) and holds a one shot advantage over Charlie Doll of Wright State.

The final round of the 54-hole championship will take place on Tuesday morning beginning at 7 a.m. CDT.
