Valparaiso University golf coach Mike Higdon has announced that Joseph Harris has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Crusaders beginning in the fall of 2011.

“Joseph is a mature young man who is a proven athlete in many sports at the high school level, but wants to dedicate himself to the game of golf and take his performance to new levels,” Higdon said.  “He will be an asset to the team both on and off of the course as well as in the classroom.  He has worked extremely hard on his game over the past 12 months and I am positive he has just tipped the iceberg as far as what he will be able to accomplish.”

Harris hails from Washington, Iowa where he has attended Washington High School.  He earned First Team All-State accolades in Iowa as a junior after earning Second Team honors his freshman and sophomore seasons.  He is a solid all-around player that has shown consistency in his tournament play at the local, state, and national levels.  Harris has won many high school invitationals and has numerous strong finishes in state and national junior tournaments playing in events on the FCWT, MAJGT, and Plantation tours.

“I fully expect Joseph to step in and make an immediate impact on our program,” Higdon added.  “He provides the consistency we need to continue the growth of our young team.  Being an all-state selection every year of his high school career shows he has the ability to take his game to the highest levels.  I am excited to have him join our young program and help us continue our growth over the next four years.”
