Valparaiso managed just six hits on Saturday evening as Cal Poly shut out the Crusaders 11-0 at Baggett Stadium in San Luis Obispo, Calif. in the middle game of a three-game weekend series.

Kyle Gaedele (Arlington Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows H.S.) and Steven Scoby (Delton, Mich./Delton Kellogg H.S.) each went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Crusaders, with Gaedele also drawing a walk, but Valpo could not string together a series of hits to plate any runs.

Cal Poly erupted for seven runs in the third inning on eight hits, then added three more tallies in the fourth, two of which were unearned.  The Mustangs added their final run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly to complete the scoring.

Kyle Anderson started and earned the win (1-2) for Cal Poly, working six scoreless innings, scattering five hits and walking just one.  He struck out four.  Chase Johnson and Taylor Chris cleaned up the final three innings, fanning five combined while allowing just one hit.

Tyler Deetjen (Saint Charles, Ill./East H.S.) suffered the loss (1-2) for the Crusaders.  The sophomore pitched four innings allowing 11 hits and 10 runs, eight of which were earned.  Justin Frane (Huntertown, Ind./Carroll H.S.) pitched the final four innings, allowing just one run on four hits and striking out four.

Valparaiso (1-10) and Cal Poly will wrap up the three-game weekend series on Sunday afternoon.  First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. CST.
