Valpo Men Finish 15th at Ball State

Valparaiso shot a final round 393 on Sunday afternoon to finish in 15th place with a three-round total of 1,179 at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational held at Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Ind.

Valpo finished 13 shots behind 14th place Butler.  Host Ball State won the tournament at 1104, nine strokes ahead of Bowling Green in a tournament which had each school play six golfers, with the top five scores counting towards the team total.

Andy Webb (Bedford, Ind./North Lawrence H.S.) led the way for the Brown and Gold in the final round, carding a 75 to finish at 230, tying for 38th place.  Thomas Wettstein (Neenah, Wis./Xavier H.S.) added a 77 on the 6,438-yard, par 70 layout to finsh at 238 for the weekend.

Kyle Henning (Brookfield, Wis./East H.S.) posted a Sunday score of 78 to finish at 237 while Josh Kalita (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) shot 80 and finished at 239.  Brad Winters (Elgin, Ill./Saint Edward H.S.) finished the tournament with the Crusaders’ second lowest overall total at 235, but shot a final round 83.  Andrew Beischel (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay H.S.) concluded his first tournament of the spring with a 91 to finish at 262.

Ball State’s Eric Steger was the individual champion, shooting four-over par 214 (67-72-75).

Valparaiso will return to the links on Friday to begin the Horizon League Championships.  The first round will start at 6:30 a.m. CDT at Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
