Valpo Finishes Third at Butler Invitational

Valparaiso’s men’s swim team finished in third place on Sunday afternoon at the Butler Invitational held in Fishers, Ind.

The Crusaders tallied 229 points on the afternoon while Ball State won the meet with 730 points.  Xavier (Ohio) finished second with 697 points.

Kyle Braun (McHenry, Ill./West H.S.) led the way for the Brown and Gold with a fourth place finish in the 50 freestyle.  The freshman touched the wall in 22.51 seconds.

Trevor Trimpe (New Palestine, Ind./Connersville H.S.) added a fifth place effort for Valpo in the 500 free with his time of 4:57.52. 

Steve Booth (Saint Joseph, Mich./Saint Joseph H.S.) added a seventh place mark in the mile with a time of 19:42.44 while Thomas Patrick (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) added an eighth place effort in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.05.

Matt King (Clinton, Ill./Clinton H.S.) also added an eighth place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.49 seconds while also earning an eighth place mark in the 200 back with a time of 2:07.99.  Steven Parker (Fairborn, Ohio/Fairborn H.S.) finished in the same spot in the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 1:12.62 while Patrick Sandness (Seneca, Ill./Seneca H.S.) placed eighth in the 200 breast touching the wall in 2:31.90.

Guillermo Aguilar (San Salvador, El Salvador/Colegio Internacional de San Salvador H.S.) finished eighth with a time of 2:08.82 in the 200 butterfly.

Valparaiso will return to the water next Saturday afternoon when the Crusaders host Monmouth (Ill.) at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.  The first event is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
