Ryan Broekhoff (Frankston, Victoria, Australia/Australian Institute of Sport) was one of 12 Australian players to be named to the Boomers squad which will face China in the YouYi Games series, set to tip off in Perth Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. local time (1 a.m. Saturday Central time).
This marks the first step to a possible spot on the Olympic squad for Broekhoff, who made the 12-man Boomers team for the YouYi Games from the Perth camp, which contained 18 players out of the 25-player Olympic pool. Broekhoff is joined by a pair of fellow U.S. collegians on the YouYi Games squad: St. Mary’s Matthew Dellavedova and New Mexico’s Hugh Greenwood. The team also contains five professionals playing in Australia’s NBL, as well as four international professionals.
Broekhoff and the Boomers begin the three-game series in Perth at Challenge Stadium at 2 p.m. local time Saturday, June 9 (1 a.m. Saturday Central time), before moving to the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre for game two on Monday, June 11 at 7 p.m. local time. The final game of the series will be back at Challenge Stadium on Wednesday, June 13, with an 8 p.m. local time tip (7 a.m. Wednesday Central time).
