Freshman Gonzalo Castro Diaz (Mexico City, Mexico) moved into Valparaiso’s all-time top-ten in a pair of events on Friday evening as the Crusader men’s swimming team fell 145-59 to IUPUI in Indianapolis, Ind.
Castro Diaz moved up the charts in the 200 individual medley, swimming to a second-place finish with a time of 1:58.53, the fourth-fastest time in the event in Crusader history. The rookie then won the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.37 seconds, moving into tenth all-time at Valpo in the event.
Sophomore Kyle Braun (McHenry, Ill./West) also earned an event win on Friday, taking top honors in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.79 seconds. Braun picked up a second-place finish as well with a time of 49.97 seconds in the 100 free.
Freshman Frederick Jenny (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) paced the Crusaders in three events against the Jaguars, finishing third in the 200 free (1:49.28), 500 free (5:01.27) and 100 breaststroke (1:01.92). Freshman Alec Domjan (Jackson, Mo./Notre Dame Regional) touched the wall second in the 1000 free with a time of 11:22.08, while sophomore Matt King (Clinton, Ill./Clinton) finished the 100 backstroke in 56.54 seconds, good for third place.
Valparaiso continues its 2012-2013 season on Saturday at Lewis University, slated for a 1 p.m. start.
