Flagstaff, Arizona was not kind to the women's tennis team this weekend. The Crusaders were shutout 7-0 against Portland State on Saturday and host Northern Arizona Sunday.
Saturday's match against the Vikings saw the doubles team of Kristin Zakiewicz and Michele Fredlake come up just short in their match at No. 1, losing 9-7. Kaitlyn Hamel and Megan Barthels narrowly lost their No. 2 doubles matchup 8-5.
Hamel came the closest to claiming a singles point, dropping her match to Marina Todd 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
All singles matches were determined in straight sets.
Only one Crusader won more than two games in a set in singles play Sunday against Northern Arizona. Zakiewicz paced Valpo with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat at No. 1 singles.
The Lumberjacks clinched the doubles point when Hannah Stone and Johanna Vang finished up their match over Zakiewicz and Fredlake 8-2.
Valparaiso (1-9) will welcome South Dakota State to the Courts of NWI Saturday, March 23rd at 10:00 am for their final tuneup before Horizon League play begins Sunday morning in Dayton, Ohio against Wright State.
