Valparaiso men's basketball head coach Bryce Drew announced Thursday that a pair of Canadian guards, Max Joseph and Tevonn Walker, have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Crusader program as freshmen for the 2014-15 season. Joseph and Walker's signing was featured in a segment Wednesday evening on CTV Montreal, Montreal's most popular English-language television newscast.
"We are really excited tro have Max and Tevonn join our Valpo family," said Drew. "They are both quality students who will fit very well on our campus. Both Max and Tevonn are very athletic perimeter players who should be able to help our team immediately."
Joseph and Walker are currently teammates at Vanier College, a prep school located in the St. Laurent borough of Montreal, Quebec. Walker, a 6'1" guard, is in his third year at the school, having been named a First Team RSEQ All-Star last season after averaging 16.4 points per game, which was good for fourth in the league. He also helped Vanier College to a seventh-place finish at the CCAA National Championship in 2011-12. Walker has been ranked eighth nationally in his class by Hoopstars Canada and tenth by North Pole Hoops.
Meanwhile, Joseph, also a 6'1" guard, is joining forces with Walker this season at Vanier College for the first time after previously attending Parc Ex in Montreal. Joseph has been ranked 22nd nationally in the class by North Pole Hoops. Joseph and Walker, who also have teamed up with Brookwood Bounce Elite AAU, have helped lead Vanier to a 5-0 start to the 2013-14 season. Walker scored 20+ points in each of the school's first three games, while Joseph scored 19 points and handed out four assists in their fourth victory of the campaign.
"Both Max and Tevonn have had the opportunity to play for a great coach in coach Andy Hertzog at Vanier," said Drew. "Coming from Vanier, we know we are getting two high-character kids that have been very well-coached."
