Dority, Segatto Named Valparaiso Athletes of the Month for December

Men's basketball senior Lavonte Dority (Chicago, Ill./Foreman [USF]) and women's swimming junior Flavia Segatto (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charleow Flanigan) have been named the Valparaiso athletic department's Athletes of the Month for the month of December.

Dority averaged a team-high 15.5 points per game over the Crusaders' six games in December, hitting at a 94.4% clip from the free throw line while also tying for team-high honors in assists. Dority scored in double figures in all six games and led the team in scoring in five of the six contests. The senior knocked down three 3-pointers en route to a team-high 16 points in Valpo's road win at Ball State, and posted his highest scoring output of the month with 21 points at home against Saint Louis, including a game-tying basket with 3.8 seconds to play against the Billikens.

Segatto led the Crusader women's swimming squad as it competed at the Calvin Winter Invitational early in the month. The junior scored 49 points in individual events for Valpo, posting top-three finishes in each of her three scoring events. Segatto swam to a runner-up finish in the 1,650m freestyle, finishing less than eight seconds behind the winner. She finished in third in both the 200 butterfly, where she was six-tenths of a second from her own school record in the event, and the 500 freestyle as well. In addition, Segatto was part of four of the Crusader relay teams, including a fifth-place finish in the 800 free relay and a seventh-place finish in the 400 free relay.
