Valparaiso University head baseball coach Paul Twenge announced that Alexander Halstead of Brookfield, Wis./Milwaukee Lutheran and Daniel Portschy of Clarendon Hills, Ill./Hinsdale Central have signed national letters of intent to attend Valpo and play baseball.
Aaron Cameron's suicide squeeze bunt in the bottom of the 10th scored Mike Arensdorff with the winning run as Valpo edged Southern Utah 8-7 in the nightcap of a Mid-Continent Conference twinbill. The Thunderbirds outslugged the Crusaders 14-11 in the first game. Arensdorff had eight RBIs in the doubleheader, including seven in the first game. Kevin Perri went 5-for-7 in the twinbill with two triples and two doubles.
Valpo's Saturday home doubleheader against Southern Utah has been cancelled due to inclement weather. The Crusaders and Thunderbirds are scheduled to play a twinbill on Sunday at noon at Emory G. Bauer Field.

The Crusaders open the Mid-Continent Conference season on Saturday with a road doubleheader against Chicago State beginning at noon. Saturday's and Sunday's (noon) doubleheaders against the Cougars will be played at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

A four-run fifth inning by Austin Peay broke open a close game as the host Governors defeated Valpo 6-0 in the APSU Invitational. Colin Reynolds went 3-for-4 and Brian Rzepka and Jon Rupno had two hits each for the Crusaders (0-2).
Valparaiso University will be conducting an Early Spring Baseball Camp on Friday, Feb. 18. The camp, for ages 7-15, will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in VU's Emory G. Bauer Baseball Field indoor hitting pavilion and the Athletics-Recreation Center.
