Valpo's Cawiezell Selected in 40th Round of MLB Draft

Junior Dallas Cawiezell (Long Grove, Iowa/North Scott) was selected Friday by the Cleveland Indians in the 40th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball amateur draft.

Cawiezell, who was taken by the Indians with the 1,204th overall pick, was a second team All Mid-Continent Conference honoree this past season. The junior, who also was named to the conference's All-Tournament Team, led Valpo at the plate with five home runs and finished second on the team with 28 RBI in just 119 at-bats. On the mound, Cawiezell appeared in 19 contests, throwing 38 innings with a 3.55 ERA while striking out 33 batters and registering seven saves.
