Box Score

Bunny Dickson scored the lone goal of the match in the 20th minute as Pacific’s defense was able to keep Valparaiso off of the scoreboard as the Tigers posted a 1-0 victory over the Crusaders late Friday evening in Stockton, Calif.

Dickson took a through ball from Sammi Teramae and scored on a one-on-one situation into the right side at the 19:12 mark of the first half.

Valpo went into halftime with the one goal deficit and was outshot 8-4 in the opening 45 minutes.  Erin Murray (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley H.S.) made five first half saves to keep the Crusaders in the match.

Murray would have to make five more stops in the second half to finish the night with 10 saves, her second highest output of the season as Pacific (4-2-1) outshot the Crusaders 18-9 for the match.  Jaime Souza was forced to make four saves for the Tigers.

“I was very proud of our second half effort tonight,” Valpo head coach Stephen Anthony said.  “I felt we changed the game after halftime and put them under pressure.  We just could not find the equalizer goal.”

Valpo did hold a 6-3 edge in corner kick opportunities, but the Crusaders were unable to score off of a restart.  Sarah Jewell (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill H.S.) had two of the Brown and Gold’s four shots on goal on the evening.

“Our effort tonight against a Big West opponent is a benchmark for this program as we prepare for conference play,” Anthony added.

Valparaiso (5-3) will head to Saint Mary’s (Calif.) on Sunday afternoon for a 2 p.m. kickoff in Morgana, Calif.  The match can be heard live on WVUR (95.1-FM, Valparaiso) and online at www.valpo.edu/athletics.
