Valparaiso University’s Bryce Shafer (Wabash, Ind./Northfield H.S.) has been named the Horizon League’s Pitcher of the Week after his effort last Friday afternoon against Austin Peay.
The freshman right-hander worked 7.2 innings, allowing just four hits and one unearned run against the Governors. Shafer struck out seven hitters and walked just one, but wound up with a no decision.
On the season, Shafer has posted a 2.45 earned run average and 10 strikeouts in 11 .0 innings of work. He has allowed just five hits and opponents are hitting .139 against him through two starts. Shafer is slated to toe the rubber again on Wednesday afternoon as the Crusaders battle Duke.
