Wright State Upends Valpo in OT in Regular Season Finale
Saturday, October 27, 2007

Box Score

Amber Kasmer scored 6:14 into overtime on Friday evening as Wright State defeated Valparaiso 1-0 in the Crusaders’ regular season finale in Dayton, Ohio.

Kasmer took a pass from Amy Miller and fired a shot from the top of the 18 just under the cross bar for the match-winner.

Playing in a light rain for most of the match, Valpo played the Raiders tight the entire match.  Wright State held a 17-5 edge in shot attempts on the day, but only four were on frame as the Crusader defense held the Raiders at bay.

“I was pleased with our performance tonight,” head coach Stephen Anthony said.  “We played in a tough atmosphere with their crowd and the weather but we played some good soccer.”

Erin Murray (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley H.S.) made two saves for the Crusaders while Meghan Hackerson made three stops for Wright State (12-4-1, 5-1-1 Horizon) in the win.

Both teams had four corner opportunities in the match.

“The intensity of the match and how we responded will certainly carry over to next week’s quarterfinal match,” Anthony added.  “We had a good regular season and now we get to show what we can do in the tournament.  It should be an exciting week and I know we are well prepared.”

Valparaiso (10-8, 4-4) will face Butler next weekend in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Tournament.  Times and official pairings will be announced following the conclusion of the regular season on Sunday.
