Former Crusader swingman Ron Howard is suiting up with the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks during training camp in hopes of making the Bucks opening-day roster.

“We are excited about Ron’s opportunity with the Bucks,” said Crusader head coach Homer Drew.  “It shows how hard work can pay off, as Ron has really worked hard in the NBDL to improve his efficiency on both the defensive and offensive ends of the court.  We are really hoping that Ron will become our second NBA player in the modern era.”

Howard was invited to the Bucks’ training camp after a successful rookie campaign in the NBDL last year.  The native of Chicago, Ill. played for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants during the 2007 NBDL season, averaging 11.1 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.  He also shined on defense last year for the Mad Ants, finishing 15^th among NBDL players with 61 total steals.

Over his three years donning the Crusader uniform, Howard averaged 11.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game and was a key component in Valpo’s run to the NCAA Tournament during the 2003-04 season.  He also ranks among the top-15 in Crusader basketball history with 241 career assists.
