Rolf Leads Crusader Women at Evansville

Led by Laura Rolf’s (Rochester, Mich./Lutheran Northwest) season-best second-place finish, the Crusader women’s cross country team ran to a sixth-place finish Saturday morning at the Evansville Invitational.

Valpo tallied 198 points to finish in sixth position among the 19 competing squads.  Southern Illinois took home top team honors with 50 points.

Rolf posted her first top-ten finish of the season and finished among the top-two at the Evansville Invite for the third time in her career with her runner-up finish.  The senior crossed the line in 17:31.58, less than 13 seconds behind the race winner. Sara Christensen (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) ran a career-best 6K time of 19:04.01, placing 41st.

Lindsey Gilman (South Bend, Ind./Marian) was the third Crusader runner across the line, completing the race in 19:10.04 for a 48th-place finish.  Caitlin Sauerhage (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun [Indiana]) finished in 56th place, completing the course in 19:18.56, while Whitney Bowman (Portage, Ind./Portage [Purdue]) rounded out the Crusader team score with a 62nd-place finish, crossing the line in a career-best time of 19:25.65.

Valparaiso returns to the course in two Saturdays, running in the Horizon League Championships at Green Bay, Wis. on November 1.  The women’s 6K is slated for an 11 a.m. start.
