Monday, November 3, 2008

Crusader junior setter Kim Bukowski (Waukesha, Wis./West) was named the Horizon League’s Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after quarterbacking the Valpo offense in two road sweeps last weekend.

Bukowski kicked off the weekend by handing out a match-high 42 assists in Valpo’s sweep at Youngstown State on Friday evening as the Crusader offense hit at a .270 clip for the match.  The next afternoon, she dished out 34 helpers while leading the offense to .279 hitting in the Crusaders’ sweep of Cleveland State.  With her ninth assist against the Vikings, the junior became just the seventh player in Valpo volleyball history to register 2,000 career assists.

For the week, Bukowski averaged 12.67 assists/set to increase her season average to 11.19 assists/set, good for 16th in the nation, while the Crusaders as a team continue to lead the country in both kills/set and assists/set.  Valparaiso puts its seven-match winning streak on the line Tuesday evening at DePaul at 7 p.m.
