Friday, December 5, 2008

Valparaiso University’s Agnieszka Kulaga (Tarnow, Poland/I Liceum Ogolnokstalcace H.S.) has been named the U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Month for November after leading the Crusader women’s basketball team to a 3-1 record as well as the tournament title at the Coors Rocky Mountain Invitational.

Kulaga averaged 22 points, including scoring at least 20 points in every

game during the month, as Valpo opened the season with a 3-1 record for just the third time in school history.  She was also named the Most Valuable Player as the Crusaders captured their first tournament title in more that 20 years.

The fourth-year point guard graduated from Valparaiso in three years with a 3.80 undergraduate grade-point average in international business and now has a 3.85 GPA in graduate school as she pursues an MBA. She was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team last season and has twice been named to the Horizon League’s Academic Honor Roll.

Kulaga and the Crusaders will return to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon in the Lone Star State as they battle North Texas.  Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. with all the action carried live on WVUR (95.1-FM, Valparaiso) and online at www.valpoathletics.com.
