Valparaiso University freshman Adam Whitmer (Shipshewana, Ind./Westview H.S.) has been named the Horizon League’s men’s tennis Player of the Week following a perfect 6-0 week as the Crusaders started their spring trip in Orlando, Fla.

The rookie went 3-0 playing at number six singles for the Brown and Gold while also posting a 3-0 mark with Kevin DeHerrera (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) at third doubles.  All three of his singles victories came in straight sets as Valpo defeated Robert Morris (Pa.) and South Dakota State as well as a loss to NAIA #13 Shorter.

Whitmer and DeHerrera cruised to doubles victories against all three schools as well, posting two wins by the score of 8-2 as well as an 8-3 triumph against South Dakota State.

He is the first Crusader to earn Player of the Week honors since Valpo joined the Horizon League prior to last season.
