Valparaiso University’s Ansel Hillmer (Tampa, Fla./Hillsborough H.S.) was named to the ESPN The Magazine At-Large Academic All-District V First Team as voted upon by CoSIDA.

Hillmer, a swimmer who was named to the Academic All-District V Second Team last year, was a member of Valpo’s 200 and 400 medley relays that set new school records at the Horizon League Championships, swimming the butterfly legs.  Individually, he turned in the second best 200 fly time in school history (1:55.88) as well as the fifth fastest 100 fly time ever (53.16).

The senior has been voted to the Horizon League’s All-Academic Team as well as being named to the league’s Academic Honor Roll.  In the classroom, Hillmer has posted a 3.85 cumulative grade point average as a physics and mathematics major.  He is now eligible for Academic All-America honors as well.

To be eligible for Academic All-District and Academic All-America, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum grade-point average of 3.20, and be either a starter or key reserve.  District V consists of schools in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ontario, and Manitoba.

The at-large teams include tennis, swimming and diving, ice hockey, skiing, volleyball, golf, wrestling, water polo, rifle, lacrosse, and gymnastics.
