Sivak Posts Two Top-Sevens in Final Day at Calvin

David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) recorded a pair of top-seven finishes on Saturday as ValparaisoGrand Rapids, Mich. concluded the final day of the Calvin Winter Invitational in fifth place in

Sivak had Valpo’s highest finish of the day, a sixth place effort, in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.62 seconds, just .09 seconds out of fourth place.  The junior also finished seventh in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:54.52 after swimming 4:43.90 in the morning preliminaries.

The 500 free saw the Crusaders post three top-12 marks in the event.  Blake Edwards (Orange, Calif./Lutheran H.S. of Orange County) finished ninth, winning the B final with a time of 4:52.56.  Kevin Fedde (Fort Collins, Colo./Heritage Christian H.S.) placed 12th in the event with a time of 4:58.07.

Trevor Trimpe (New Palestine, Ind./Connersville H.S.) earned a 15th place finish in the 200 breaststroke for the Crusaders with a time of 2:20.97 while Austin Hunter (La Crescent, Minn./La Crescent H.S.) had Valpo’s highest finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.35 seconds.

The Crusaders also earned an eighth place finish in the 400 freestyle relay as Trimpe, Hunter, Edwards, and Sivak posted a time of 3:15.89.

As a team Valpo posted 210 points over the three days to finish fifth as Grand Valley State won the meet with 1392.5 points.

Valparaiso will have a month off for the holidays before returning to the pool on January 9 in Muncie, Ind.  The first race of the Ball State Invitational is set for 11 a.m. CST.
