Valparaiso opened up the home portion of its 2010 spring season on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 5-2 decision to Bradley at Matchpoint Tennis Club in Griffith, Ind.

Valpo hung tough in doubles, posting a victory at number three as Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.) and Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) teamed for an 8-5 victory against Kennedy Scott and Brigitte Graf.  Bradley (1-1) won the other two doubles contests both by an 8-2 margin to earn the first point of the match though.  Nicole Miller and Emily Regenold defeated Christine Antrobus (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.) and Abby Wright (Sarasota, Fla./Pendleton H.S.) at the top of the lineup while Kelly Donohue and Jessica Buterbaugh topped Jackie O’Reilly (DePere, Wis./DePere H.S.) and Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.) at number two.

Buterbaugh put the Braves up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over York at fourth singles before Antrobus got the Crusaders on the scoreboard with her 6-2, 6-1 triumph against Graf.  Bradley secured the victory winning at number two and three singles.  Reginold topped Brittany O’Reilly 6-1, 6-2 at the second spot while Donohue topped Bilyeu 6-2, 6-1 at number three.  Scott defeated Jackie O’Reilly 6-4, 6-3 at fifth singles before Wright rallied to defeat Miller in a third set tie-break 1-6, 7-6 (4), 13-11.

“I’m really happy we were able to get three wins today,” head coach Traci Young said after the match.  “Overall we were much more aggressive today than we were yesterday.”

Valparaiso (0-2) will have a month off before beginning their spring trip with a match at Eckard College on March 9.  First serve is set for 12 p.m. CST in Saint Petersburg, Fla.
