Crusaders Remain Sixth at Horizon League Championships

Two individuals qualified for the evening finals on Friday for Valparaiso as the Crusaders returned to the water for day three of the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships at Flames Natatorium in Chicago, Ill.

David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) finished 16th overall in the 100 butterfly, posting a time of 52.10 seconds in the evening B Final, the third quickest mark in the event in school history. 

In the 100 breaststroke, Trevor Trimpe (New Palestine, Ind./Connersville H.S.) also earned a 16th place finish with the 10th best time ever a Valpo.  The sophomore touched the wall in 1:01.12.

Valpo also earned points on the evening in the 800 free relay with the 10th best mark in Crusader history.  The team of Sivak, Kevin Fedde (Fort Collins, Colo./Heritage Christian H.S.), Trimpe, and Blake Edwards (Orange, Calif./Lutheran H.S. of Orange County) posted a time of 7:10.35.

In the morning preliminaries, Edwards posted the team’s fastest time in the 200 free with a mark of 1:46.05 while Andrew Hipskind (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine H.S.) had the school’s fastest 100 backstroke time, finishing in 1:00.51.

Milwaukee enters Saturday’s final day of competition in the lead with 513 points followed by Cleveland State with 495 points and UIC with 468.  Wright State is fourth with 459 points with Green Bay (413) and Valpo (106) fifth and sixth respectively.

Valparaiso will return to the water for the final time this season on Saturday with preliminary heats beginning at 10:30 a.m. with finals slated for 6 p.m.
