Women's Tennis Loses at Milwaukee to Conclude Road Trip

Valparaiso wrapped up its conference-opening road trip on Sunday morning in Milwaukee, Wis. suffering a 7-0 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. 

The Panthers jumped on top sweeping all three doubles matches for the day’s first point.  Kelly Drvaric and Kari Kastenholz opened with an 8-1 victory at number one against Christine Antrobus (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.) and Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.).  Sammi Schoen and Brittany Skemp added an 8-0 win at second doubles against Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.) and Abby Wright (Sarasota, Fla./Pendleton H.S.) whie Megan Gow and Ashley Schoneman wrapped up doubles at the third spot with an 8-2 victory over Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) and Jackie O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./DePere H.S.).

“We just had too many unforced errors today,” head coach Traci Young said.

York forced a third set tie-break at fourth singles for Valpo against Kelly Fritz, but eventually fell 5-7, 6-4, 10-4.

“Stephanie played really well today,” Young added.  “She was very consistent and in the match the entire way.”

Milwaukee (4-9, 1-1 Horizon) won the other five contests in straight sets though.  Drvaric topped Wright at the top 6-1, 6-3 while Schoneman added a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Brittany O’Reilly at two.  At six singles, Beth Ganser defeated Antrobus by the same score while Schoen topped Bilyeau 6-0, 6-1 at the third spot.  Skemp added a 6-0, 6-0 win against Jackie O’Reilly.

Valparaiso (0-5, 0-2) will return to action on Tuesday afternoon hosting Chicago State.  First serve is set for 3 p.m. at the Valpo Tennis Complex.
