Zach Rodeghero, a member of Valparaiso University’s class of 2008, has signed a contract with the Gary SouthShore RailCats of the Northern League and will be in uniform for the team on Monday evening against Joliet.

Rodeghero, a career .369 hitter with the Crusaders, was an All-Mideast Region Second Team selection his senior season while earning First Team All-Horizon League accolades.  He set Valpo’s single season hits record with 92 in 2008 while tying what was then the single season doubles mark with 21.  He led the conference in hitting at .418 as a senior while finishing third in the league with 54 runs batted in.

For his career Rodeghero hit seven homers and drove home 91 runs in 118 games with the Brown and Gold.

After graduating from Valpo, Rodeghero played for Chillicothe of the Frontier League in 2008, batting .207 with eight RBIs in 25 appearances.  In 2009, he took his game overseas, playing for the Merchtem Cats in Belgium.

Rodeghero was invited to Gary’s training camp and played against his alma mater in an exhibition game in mid-May before being one of the last cut from the opening day roster.  Against the Crusaders he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three runs batted in.
