For the second straight season, Valparaiso fifth-year senior goalkeeper Ryan Schwarz (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) has been named to the ESPN Academic All-District V First Team.  With the honor, Schwarz is now eligible for Academic All-America consideration.

Schwarz has played the majority of minutes in goal for the Crusaders this year, posting career-bests in save percentage (.797) and goals against average (1.01).  With six victories in net this season, Schwarz owns 24 career wins and has posted 16 clean sheets, a Valpo career record.  The fifth-year senior also is Valpo’s career record-holder in goals against average (1.47) and, with a save Sunday against UIC, moved into third place by himself on the Crusaders’ all-time saves chart with 288 career stops.

In the classroom, Schwarz holds a 3.72 GPA as a finance major.  Also an NSCAA Scholar All-Region selection last year, Schwarz has twice been named to the Academic All-League squad and has been placed on the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll each semester he has been eligible.  He has also been named to the Dean’s List and received Presidential academic honors during this time at Valpo.

To be eligible for Academic All-District, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 and be either a starter or key reserve.  District V consists of schools in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ontario and Manitoba.
