Valparaiso closed out competition at the Calvin Invitational on Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich., with the men posting a sixth place finish after scoring 204 points over the three days of competition.
The Crusaders finished 50 points ahead of Alma in the eight school field, while Grand Valley State ran away with the title scoring 1,331 points.
David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) led the way on the final day of competition with a third place effort in the 200 individual medley. The senior finished with a time of 1:54.68, less than two seconds off of the lead.
Tate Wegehaupt (Tigard, Ore./Tigard H.S.) added a fourth place finish in the 200 breaststroke. His time of 2:11.14 was the fourth best in program history. Alex Harris (Columbus, Ind./North H.S.) and Trevor Trimpe (New Palestine, Ind./Connersville H.S.) both added top-12 finishes in the event as well. Harris finished in 11th place with a time of 2:18.60 while Trimpe was one spot back in 2:19.98. Trimpe also led the way for Valpo in the 500 freestyle, turning in a time of 4:57.00.
Guillermo Aguilar (San Salvador, El Salvador/Colegio Internacional de San Salvador H.S.) had the top time in the 100 butterfly with his mark of 53.38 seconds, the ninth best time in school history.
Russell Deghi (Sebestopol, Calif./Analy H.S.) had the team’s top time in the 100 free, touching the wall in 50.50 seconds.
Valparaiso will take six weeks off for the holidays before returning to the pool for a dual meet against Green Bay on Jan. 14. The meet begins at 5 p.m. at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.
