Valparaiso picked up a pair of singles wins on Friday afternoon, but it was not enough to defeat Bradley as the Braves notched a 5-2 victory over the Crusaders at the Clubs at River City in Peoria, Ill.
Jackie O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./DePere H.S.) earned her first win of the spring at second singles with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Sarah Rodefeld. Aubree Zdanovec (Appleton, Wis./East H.S.) added a sixth singles win, 6-2, 6-1 against Brigitte Graf for the Crusaders.
“That was a huge win for Jackie today,” head coach Traci Young said. “Aubree played great for her first college win.”
Bradley (2-4) won at the other four singles spots. Nicole Miller downed Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.) 6-0, 6-0 at the top of the order while Meredith McDonagh was a 6-0, 6-2 winner against Kristin Zakiewicz (Bristol, Ind./Northridge H.S.) at the third spot. Adele Henke downed Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) 6-1, 6-0 at number four while Ashley Roth defeated Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.) in a match tie-break 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 at the fifth spot.
The Braves also swept all three doubles spots. Miller and Rodefeld topped Zakiewicz and Bilyeu 8-3 at one while Henke and McDonagh beat Jackie O’Reilly and York by the same score at second doubles. Graf and Roth were 8-4 winners over Zdanovec and Brittany O’Reilly.
Valparaiso (0-4) will have a couple of weeks off before returning to action in Aquadilla, Puerto Rico. The Crusaders will face Virginia Tech on March 9 at 2 p.m.
